About Kristina Kusakina

I am a freelance conservator specialising in wall paintings, architectural finishes research, and the conservation of historic interiors. With a strong foundation in both practical and academic training, I work independently and in collaboration with institutions, studios, and fellow professionals to preserve the layered histories embedded in architectural spaces.

After completing my Master’s degree in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage at the University of Amsterdam, I continued my professional development through the university’s Advanced Professional Programme and internships at institutions such as SRAL – Stichting Restauratie Atelier Limburg. In addition to my work in the Netherlands, I also have experience working abroad, including projects in the United States and other European countries, which has broadened my perspective and enriched my conservation approach.

Since establishing my own conservation practice - Kusakina Restauratie & Zorg - I have been involved in a range of projects across the Netherlands, including:

Architectural finishes research at the Spinhuis and Binnengasthuis buildings of University of Amsterdam

Conservation of the Willem Arondeus mural (1930s) in a Ouder-en Kindteam center, Amsterdam

Gilt leather kamer at Huis van Gijn, Dordrecht

Conservation of paintings by R.W. van de Wint at De Nollen, Den Helder

My approach combines material understanding, visual sensitivity, and respect for historic context, always guided by ethical principles and close collaboration with clients and stakeholders. I am a registered entrepreneur with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK) and a member of Restauratoren Nederland.
